A weekly feature from Ocean City Beach Patrol historian Fred Miller:

Eighteen years ago on August 9, 1996, the Ocean City Beach Patrol won the surf dash relay at the Cape-Atlantic Women’s Lifeguard Invitational Tournament. This picture was in the August 13 Sentinel-Ledger over this caption: “Winners of the surf dash can relay for Ocean City included, Melissa Koch, flanked by, from left, Stephanie Wilson, Sara Griffith, and Kristie Brown.”

Kristie Brown Chisholm and Melissa Koch Jeck will be inducted into the OCBP Hall of Fame at the lifeguard reunion party, Saturday evening, August 9 at Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro, 908 Shore Road in Somers Point. For information, call Fred Miller at 609-398-5811.

Ocean City will host the 11th annual OCBP Women’s Invitational on Wednesday, July 23 on the 34th Street beach. The first event, the sprint doubles rowing race, will begin at 6:15 p.m. Ocean City will be trying to win their fourth straight title. The following were on last year’s championship team: Rachel Boudart, Holly Berenotto, Lexi Santer, Erin Curry, Carly Wray, Samantha Brady and Erin Myers.
