Ocean City is continuing its efforts to maintain and improve the grounds of the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course & Pro Shop.
The course is located at 26th Street and Bay Avenue in the same complex as the Municipal Airport. Three new gazebos will be constructed in the near future to replace weathered ones on the 12-hole course.
During the City Council meeting on Feb. 9, Council approved a contract for Horizon Structures, LLC of Atglen, Pa., to supply the gazebos. The contract is for $26,445 not to exceed $44,000 in the year, with the funds coming from the city’s capital budget.
Steve Longo, the city’s manager of public buildings and grounds, said in a memo about the company, Horizon Structures, “The city has purchased several sheds and gazebos from the company over the past couple of years and found the structures to be of high quality at very affordable prices.”
Longo also noted the need for new gazebos.
“The gazebos will replace existing older structures on the golf course that are reaching useful life and have appearance issues,” he said.
Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen said in an email, “This is part of routine maintenance at the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course.”

The course is open on a seasonal basis, April 15 through Oct. 15 and is a popular attraction, especially with second homeowners and summer tourists from experts to novices.
“This 12 hole, par 37 course offers a beautiful blend of nature and challenging golf. An affordable round of golf with the family will be an Ocean City memory you won’t forget,” according to the city’s website ocnj.us.
Over the past couple of years, the city has focused its attention on an overall upgrade of the grounds of the golf course and the airport. Some plans include a new airport terminal, restaurant and new pro golf shop, all expected to be completed for 2024.
During a December City Council meeting, Mayor Jay Gillian announced a $3 million donation from Berger Realty owner Leon Grisbaum to help build the new airport terminal. Grisbaum is an avid pilot who has been flying for about 75 years.
The new facility will be named the “Leon and Elizabeth Grisbaum Airport Terminal” in recognition of the donation.
