Dear Friends,

Our Public Works crews have been working all night and all day, and at this time primary and secondary roads are passable. Plows are now moving to cross streets and alleys for a first pass.

Please continue to limit travel to allow our team to do its work. Because we have a good working relationship with some of the road construction contractors who are doing work in town, we have been able to secure dump trucks and other equipment to help move snow piles from the downtown, schools and other public areas.

This will help keep everybody safe when students return to school and businesses reopen on Monday.

At this time, it appears that we will be able to reopen the Community Center (including the Ocean City Free Public Library and Aquatic & Fitness Center) on a normal schedule tomorrow.

With freezing temperatures expected to extend through the weekend, snow banks will remain into next week.

Trash containers should not be placed behind any snow piles.

Our contractor cannot climb over drifts to collect trash and recycling. If you use a trash corral, please dig it out to provide access. You also can assist in public safety by helping to shovel out fire hydrants near your home.

I want to thank you all for your patience as we continue to clear the roads. It’s a good day to hunker down and stay warm inside. Make sure to check on your neighbors and lend a hand with shoveling out as the storm moves away.

Warm regards,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
