Dear Friends,

Work continues throughout the city as we make our final push to get ready for the summer season.

The pumping stations for the north end neighborhood drainage project are now fully operational and will provide relief for residents in the area between Second Street and Eighth Street to the bay side of West Avenue.

The pool at the Aquatic and Fitness Center reopened this week, and all programs are back on a regular spring schedule.

Atlantic City Electric informed me this week that the company’s spring project to improve reliability in town is now complete. No further service interruptions will be required.

Work crews finished installation of brick crosswalks on Asbury Avenue at Sixth Street, Seventh Street and 11th Street. Concrete footings are in place for an expanded ramp to the Boardwalk at 13th Street. Concrete and paving work is ongoing at the south end and other locations. These projects will wrap up by Memorial Day.

I want to remind everybody that our spring Paper Shredding and Electronic Recycling Day is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4. We’ll also provide an opportunity to dispose of bulk trash and furniture. See more information.

A week from Saturday (May 11), postal carriers will pick up donations of non-perishable food items for our local Food Cupboard for the needy. Just place items by your mailbox.

The Spring Block Party will go off rain or shine Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Asbury Avenue from Fifth Street to 14th Street. I hope you all will take the opportunity to get outside and enjoy all that our exceptional downtown has to offer.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Warm regards,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
