Dear Friends,

Spring is here, and it’s exciting to see Ocean City coming to life. A full schedule of 2022 special events begins this weekend with OC-CON and Girls Weekend. I’d like to welcome everybody coming into town for these annual celebrations and encourage you to take advantage of all that Ocean City has to offer.

Tonight’s Girls Weekend Fashion Show at the Yacht Club is sold out, and a detailed schedule of specials and activities for the rest of the weekend is available on the Facebook event page or by calling 609-399-1412.

OC-CON will bring together artists, vendors and fans of comic books and memorabilia. Visit www.ocnjcon.com for complete information on all artists, discussion panels and scheduled events.

I’m happy to announce that Jimmy and Joe Watson will be grand marshals of the Doo Dah Parade at noon on April 9. The brothers were both part of the Broad Street Bullies team that won two Stanley Cup titles in the 1970s, and they are both members of the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame. They still live in the Philadelphia area and I’m told they’re a lot of fun when they’re together. They will be available for photographs and autographs after the parade.

The Great Egg Hunt will return to the Boardwalk again this year on April 9 and again on April 16. Participating merchants will invite children up to age 7 to visit stores with their families to collect eggs filled with treats and surprises. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. or while supplies last. Flyers will direct families to participating stores. Rain dates are April 10 and April 17.

The Ocean City School District PTA will be hosting a “Someone Special” Dance 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday (April 2) at the newly renovated Civic Center at Sixth Street and the Boardwalk, for students and families of the Ocean City Intermediate School. The event is being supported by the Ocean City High School Key Club, and is a nice opportunity for students and families to enjoy each other’s company.

Michele and I would like to extend deepest condolences to the family and friends of Elizabeth “B.J.” Booth, who passed away last week at the age of 97. B.J. was a lifelong resident of Ocean City who worked at her family’s Chatterbox Restaurant and as a comptroller with the Flanders Hotel. Four generations of the Booth family have become an important part of our community. Please join me in paying tribute to a life well-lived.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
