The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation welcomed Laura Bishop as president of its Board of Trustees.

Bishop, managing principal of Laura Bishop Communications (LBC), runs her business from Ocean City and Cherry Hill, and works with a number of education clients in Cape May County.

LBC is known for its niche practice working with schools, developing and implementing comprehensive communications programs and effective communications campaigns to inform voters of school bond referenda.

“I’ve had the privilege to work side-by-side with and learn from educators for most of my career,” Bishop, a longtime member of the Cape May County Chamber, said in a news release. “Serving on the foundation board is an opportunity to work with other professionals who share my passion for a commitment to education, in this case expanding opportunities for Cape May County’s students, families, schools and communities.”

Bishop follows Teresa Budd, immediate past president of the foundation.

“I’m especially grateful to Terry, who led the foundation with professionalism, dedication and humor during a time of transition at the chamber,” she said in the release. “I have the proverbial big shoes to fill.”

Bishop’s professional accomplishments earned her recognition as a 2020 “Woman of Distinction” by the Philadelphia Business Journal. She has also been named one of Southern New Jersey Business People’s “Top Women in Business” and a “Superwoman” in South Jersey Magazine.

“Laura is phenomenal, and we are honored to have her serve as president of the Education Foundation Board of Trustees,” said Barbara Jones, president of the Cape May County Chamber. “She brings extensive expertise that will help the foundation grow.”

A firm believer in mentoring and providing opportunities for students and young professionals, Bishop serves as a member of the Advisory Board for Rowan College of Communications and Creative Arts and the Rowan Chapter of the Lillian Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication, where LBC sponsors a student intern.

Bishop recently took on a new challenge as an adjunct professor in the business department of Atlantic Cape Community College, where she teaches Principles of Marketing.

“Laura is a wonderful asset to the Education Foundation board,” said Amy Mahon, chairwoman of the Cape May County Chamber. “Her experience in the field of education will support the foundation’s mission to assist young professionals with educational and training skills.”

The foundation board also elected Vice President Marifrances O’Neill of OceanFirst Bank, Second Vice President Doug Burke of Burke Motor Group, Treasurer Mary Farrell of Laura Bishop Communications and Secretary Tom Piratzky of Cape Regional Health System.

The board also welcomes new members Tusa Magalogo-Fitisemanu, Cape Assist; Jamie Moscony, Cape May County Technical School; and John Lynch, Wildwood Convention Center.

The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation was formed in 2015 to support, enhance, and promote educational and training programs that develop the skills, knowledge, and leadership of local professionals and youth.
