Ocean City Intermediate School students are holding a friendly competition on the eve of the Super Bowl called the “Souper Bowl Food Drive.”
Students are collecting non-perishable canned food in each of their homerooms through Feb. 11. The drive began Jan. 31.
It is a fun take on the Super Bowl matchup on Sunday, Feb. 13, between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals.
“We believe that students who are able to participate in activities where they know they are directly helping the community prove to be the most successful,” Michael Mattina, principal of the Ocean City Intermediate School, said in a statement.
Mattina added, “This food drive is a great way to stock the shelves at our local food pantry, while offering children opportunities to take leadership and develop skills in relationship building, empathy, and social awareness.”
The homeroom that collects the most food by this Friday will win a class party. All of the food collected will be donated to the Community Food Bank of N.J.
