Artist Heather Mulvenna of Somers Point says she has a mission “to provide quality original artwork to bring the peace, calm and joy I found creating it to as many as possible.”
She will continue her mission when she exhibits at the Ocean City Arts Center through March 31.
A “Meet the Artist Reception” will be held 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 13. It is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
It’s not surprising then, that her love of yoga has significantly influenced her work. She begins by drawing first in pens and then adds color with inks, acrylics, colored pencils, and pastels. Her work consistently features a circle and a tree. She explains that the symbol of the circle is one of the oldest in human history. It can mean life itself, connection, infinity, containment, and protection. The tree roots down into the earth and expands up reaching to the sky. It’s as if they live in two worlds and need both to survive.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Arts, Ms. Mulvenna’s work is both whimsical and spiritual. The Ocean City Arts Center, located at 1735 Simpson Avenue in the Community Center, is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
