The Cape May County Board of Commissioners held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday to celebrate the start of the second phase of the Tech Village project at the Cape May County Airport.
Building on the success of the first phase of the high-tech facility, which quickly reached full occupancy, the expansion involves the construction of a new 16,434-square-foot building.
The project has an estimated cost of $6.45 million and is supported by nearly $3 million in funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
The multi-tenant facility will provide a dynamic and supportive environment for budding technology industries to thrive and grow in Cape May County, according to a news release.
Speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony included Cape May County Commissioner Director Leonard Desiderio, Commissioner Bob Barr, Commissioner Will Morey, Assemblyman Erik Simonsen, Lower Township Mayor Frank Sippel and EDA Philadelphia Regional Director Linda Cruz Carnall.
Other guests included Commissioner Melanie Collette, Commissioner Vice Director Andrew Bulakowski, Assemblyman Antwan McClellan and the EDA’s David Cohen.
Desiderio emphasized the significance of the project, highlighting its potential to create more jobs in the region.
“This is a pivotal moment for Cape May County as we look forward to offering our community additional, well-paying, and stable employment opportunities,” he said.
In his remarks, Barr expressed his gratitude to Congressman Jeff Van Drew, the EDA, and the Atlantic County Improvement Authority for their support in moving the project forward.
“Their recognition of the burgeoning tech sector’s impact on our county and the valuable jobs it will bring is greatly appreciated,” he said.
