The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas through 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.
A full moon, strong onshore winds and rain will combine to cause minor flooding over the next four high tide cycles. Street flooding conditions will be similar to what we’ve experienced all week.
Water levels are predicted to crest in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 9:03 p.m. Friday. High tide on the bay side of Strathmere near Corson’s Inlet is at 7:48 p.m. Friday.
The NWS predicts a water level of 5.7 feet on the mean low water scale (MLW) for Friday evening. By comparison, the water level reached 5.79 feet in Ocean City on Thursday evening. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels.
Predictions for subsequent tide cycles are as follows:
- 9:26 a.m. Saturday (9:11 a.m. in Strathmere): 5.7 feet MLW
- 9:49 p.m. Saturday (9:35 p.m.): 5.6 feet MLW
- 10:12 a.m. Sunday (9:57 a.m.): 5.8 feet MLW
Residents should be prepared to monitor conditions and move vehicles to safe places in advance of these high tides. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation.
