Citizen of Year and Business Awards Next Monday: See Winners

Mike Dattilo will retire later this year after a career with the City of Ocean City of more than three decades.

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce the recipients of the Chamber’s 2015 Citizen of the Year Award and Outstanding Business and Beautification Awards.

The awards will be presented at the Chamber’s dinner Monday, Nov. 16 at the Ocean City Yacht Club.

The Citizen of the Year Award will be presented to Ocean City resident Michael Dattilo. Dattilo has worked for the City of Ocean City in numerous capacities for more than three decades. He is the former business administrator for the city, acting as chief operating officer overseeing the following departments: Law, Community Services, Public Works, Financial Management, Police Services and Fire & Rescue Services. Additionally, Dattilo served as the department head for the following divisions: Emergency Management, Engineering / Project Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Purchasing.

Mr. Dattilo’s deep-rooted sense of community has led him to serve as a Little League coach, a mentor at Ocean City Primary School, and as a basketball coach. He is very active with the Ocean City Youth Athletic Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors for First Night and Greater Ocean City Theatre Company. Mr. Dattilo resides in Ocean City with his wife and two daughters.

The Business Renovation/Improvement Award will be presented to Domino’s Pizza, Island Gypsy, Gleeson’s, and Port-O-Call Hotel for their lobby renovations

VFW Ferguson-Foglio Post 6650 will receive the Non-Profit Renovation Improvement Award for their 15th Street location renovations.

Broadley’s and Sketties will be awarded the Outstanding Landscaping/Signage Award.

Ocean City Skateboard Park will receive the Business New Construction Award.

The Outstanding New Business Award will be presented to The Spotted Whale, The Taste of New York Café and Grille, and Golden Buddha.

This year’s Outstanding Civic, Community, Non-Profit Organization Award will be presented to Humane Society of Ocean City and Ocean City Sailing Foundation.

The Ocean City Free Public Library will receive the outstanding Use of Technology for their new Bookmobile.

The Environmentally Friendly Award will be presented Tanner Mitzel and Boy Scout Troop 32 for the Eagle Scout Osprey Nest Platform Project.

The Outstanding Service to the Community will be presented to Ta-Dah.

The Atlantic Shore baseball team will receive a special Community Recognition Award for winning the 2015 Babe Ruth 14-year-old World Series.

Special Awards will be presented for milestone anniversaries. These businesses include: Island Grill – 20 years, Deauville – 35 years, Scrim Discovery – 40 years, Jilly’s Arcade – 40 years, Bernie’s Barber Shop – 50 years, Colony Club – 65 years, Johnson’s Appliances – 70 years, Paramount Air Service – 70 years, Johnson’s Popcorn – 75 years, Gillian’s Amusements – 85 years, and Central Ocean City Union Chapel – 100 years.
