The Run for the Fallen will be held on Thursday to honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military. Runners will depart Sunset Beach (502 Sunset Boulevard in Cape May Point) at 7:45 a.m. and run through Cape May Point, Cape May City, Lower Township, Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, Stone Harbor/Avalon, Sea Isle City and Ocean City. A list follows for the times and locations for each Hero Marker in Ocean City.

Thousands of runners and cyclists will descend on Ocean City this weekend for two big events: the OCNJ Half Marathon and the MS City to Shore Ride. Both events are fall traditions in Ocean City that draw participants from across the nation. Details follow.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices (BHHS) Fox & Roach Realtors and the Trident Group’s Fox & Roach/Trident Charities held the 16th annual "Ready for Learning" backpack challenge. In total, $115,625 was donated to participating organizations to provide 6,390 filled backpacks. Sales associates from Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Margate, Northfield, Brigantine and Avalon offices contributed to the regional total, with Ocean City 34th Street, Margate and Sea Isle City offices filling the most number of backpacks, according to a news release.

The Ocean City field hockey team took on conference opponent Hammonton High School, coming away with a 4-1 victory Saturday over the visiting Blue Devils. The win improved Ocean City’s record to 4-1 on the young season, while Hammonton dropped to 4-1. Scoring for Ocean City was equally spread with Carly Hanin, Racheli Levy-Smith, Julia Neff and Tricia Nicoletti each netting a goal for the Red Raiders. Levy-Smith also chipped in two assists.

The Ocean City Free Public Library and OC READS are hosting a Zoom event featuring bestselling author Kim Michele Richardson on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Richardson has written four works of historical fiction, and a bestselling memoir, "The Unbreakable Child." The Ocean City Tabernacle welcomes back Dr. Todd J. Williams, president of Cairn University, to speak at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday, Sept. 19. Prior to his appointment as Cairn’s president in 2008, Dr. Williams served as senior vice president and provost for the university. From 2001 until 2005 he served as headmaster and CEO of Trinity Christian School in Fairfax, Va.

Ocean City will hold its semi-annual Paper Shredding Day 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Shelter Road Recycling Center off Tennessee Avenue. This no-contact event will observe all public health guidelines.

All eyes will turn to the sky for Ocean City’s Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 19. The event is free to attend and is one of the annual highlights of September in Ocean City. Before the airshow, the Parachute Pyrotechnic Show will return for its fourth year at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The show consists of several highly trained and specially licensed Team Fastrax parachuters jumping from a plane 6,000 feet above Ocean City’s beach and Boardwalk.
