Former Philadelphia Eagles Placekicker David Akers Returns to Kick Off 138th...

David Akers has goal, and it has nothing to do with field goals, football games or a Super Bowl. Using his own personal failures and low moments of his life for examples, Akers wants to teach others about the importance of never giving up. Six Time Pro Bowler and 12-year veteran place kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles, Akers returns to the Tabernacle to speak about overcoming life obstacles at 8:30 am and 10:30 am services at the Ocean City Tabernacle Sunday, May 28th.

Summer Feet

As I hastily jumped from the side of the boat, the blistering hot boards at the marina stung my feet. Oddly though it was a comforting pain, a welcome feeling and one I had experienced many times before. Walking back to the hotel that day in April as the warm trade winds blew through my hair, the familiar kiss of the warm summer sun touched my skin, and the smell of sunscreen floated everywhere. I knew what the pain was all about. It was time to start preparing my “summer feet,” the ones that could walk over the scalding sand in July, take a stab from a rogue shell, or the poke of a splintering, weathered section of the boardwalk, all without a misstep. I needed to prepare both physically and mentally...

Mayor’s Update: May 26

Another season is here. We “unlocked the ocean” this afternoon and local business persons took the first official swim of the summer. The Memorial Beach Challenge goes off tomorrow morning, and KC and the Sunshine Band will perform on the Ocean City Music Pier on Sunday evening. Already, the beach and boardwalk are filling up as residents and guests get ready for the weekend. But I want to remind everybody that Memorial Day is more than just a holiday and a start to summer fun. It’s a time to remember and to reflect on the ultimate sacrifices made by so many service members and their families. They gave their lives so all of us might live in freedom...

New Jersey Audubon (NJA) and Ocean City High School AP Biology and AP Environmental and Oceanography students will join together on Friday, May 26 for a seaside goldenrod planting in Ocean City. Barrier islands like Ocean City are frequently prone to storms, flooding and severe beach erosion. Effective beach stabilization is essential to both the structural and economic well being of the shore community. Enhancing dune vegetation will not only help stabilize dunes, but also positively affect local wildlife as the planting will also provide more nectar plants for migratory Monarch butterflies...
