More Snow, Ice on the Way

Snow, sleet, rain and a slushy mess creating hazardous road conditions summed up Thursday’s weather. One to two inches of snow was forecast for Ocean City on Thursday and there will be more on the way Friday.

COVID-19 Testing Site in O.C. on Thursday

The Cape May County Department of Health will bring its mobile COVID-19 testing trailer to the Ocean City Community Center parking lot located at 1735 Simpson Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb 18. The tests are available to anybody, but appointments are required. Individuals can call 609-463-6581 (then use prompt 2 and then press 1) to ask for additional information and make an appointment.

O.C. Board Needs Volunteers

Ocean City seeks volunteers to fill seats on the Local Assistance Board. This body oversees the administration and operations of the Municipal Welfare Office in accordance with state regulations and advises the city on other social service issues. Details follow on how to volunteer.

Library’s Teen Programming Now Online

The Ocean City Free Public Library gives people a lot to choose from when it comes to virtual programming, including something for teenagers. Teens, get ready for some movies, dungeons and dragons and game nights courtesy of the library. All you have to do is join the library’s Discord server. Details follow.

County Zoo’s Female Snow Leopard Dies

The Cape May County Zoo is sad to report the passing of Himani, a female snow leopard. Himani was peacefully euthanized Friday following a battle with cancer, the county announced in a news release. Himani was born in June 2003 and came to the Cape May County Zoo in 2009 from the Knoxville Zoo.

Mayor Jay Gillian says Ocean City continues to receive a lot of calls from residents who are frustrated by the difficulty of getting the COVID-19 vaccination. The biggest issue remains the fact that there is still not enough vaccine to go around, he explained Friday in his weekly message to the public. He is offering tips for getting a vaccination. Library’s StoryWalk Rescheduled for Feb. 17

Due to inclement weather, the Ocean City Free Public Library’s StoryWalk meet-and-greet will now take place on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Memorial Park located at 407 Wesley Ave.

Forecast Calls for Snow

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Ocean City in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 12 p.m. Thursday. The latest forecast calls for total snow accumulation up to 4 inches and ice accumulation of a light glaze.

Cupid’s Cabaret: A Virtual Music Experience

Love is in the air at the Ocean City Theatre Company (OCTC), and Cupid has inspired the nonprofit arts organization to present a virtual cabaret of love songs.  Join OCTC professional performers and Junior Company students as they serenade the virtual audience with classic love songs from Broadway and beyond. This virtual cabaret is only available for one week and can be viewed at your leisure, according to an OCTC press release. Ticket information follows.
