Community Food Drive Overflows With Generosity

This year, the Ocean City community came together for a food drive with not only donations of hundreds of pounds of food, but also loads of necessities from paper goods to toiletries. The Ocean City Board of Realtors (OCBOR) “Food Is Love, Share Some Love” winter food drive, in its 12th year, dropped off the many donations, which also included gift cards to food stores, to the Ecumenical Council Food Cupboard in Ocean City to provide for local residents and families.

Wind Farm Hot Topic in Ocean City

Wind farm officials outlined in a Zoom meeting Monday night why they want to install a transmission line under the seabed in Ocean City and bring electricity onshore through a cable at the beach lots of 35th Street. And they also heard a lot of comments from opponents of the project, as well as those in favor of the plan. The project is in the planning and permitting phase and is slated for completion by 2024.

Fundraiser for Family of Travis Waid

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the family of Travis Waid, a church and community leader in Sea Isle City and Ocean City who took his own life Feb. 25 after battling severe depression. He is survived by his wife, Pastor Melissa Doyle-Waid, head of the United Methodist Church in Sea Isle, and three children. Details follow on how to donate.

Mr. OCHS is Crowned

There was dancing, singing, lip syncing, and even a “workout” routine, minus the weights. In the end, there could be only one Mr. OCHS. Friday night, to a crowded auditorium at the high school, James Craver, 18, of Ocean City, captivated the crowd to become the crown-holder.

OCHS Students to “Unplug” for a Day

OC Minds Matter is promoting an event Friday at the Ocean City High School that asks students to put all technology away for the day in celebration of National Unplugging Day. Signs throughout the high school are asking students, “How addicted are you?” and “Will you take the challenge?” when it comes to electronic devices – namely cellphones.

Hundreds Mourn Death of Community Leader Travis Waid

Hundreds of mourners paid their final respects Wednesday to Travis Waid, a community leader whose influence was felt in Sea Isle City and Ocean City. He was the husband of Pastor Melissa Doyle-Waid, of the United Methodist Church in Sea Isle.

Public Hearing on Wind Farm March 7

The public will hear from Orsted and PSEG representatives in a live-streamed meeting Monday, March 7, when officials will explain the project and their intention to utilize an area of Ocean City for an underground transmission line. Details follow, including how to participate in the meeting.

Education Foundation Hosts OCIS “Pajama Jam” at Jilly’s Arcade

The Ocean City Education Foundation (OCEF) is sponsoring a free "Pajama Jam" event at Jilly’s Arcade on Friday night for Intermediate School fourth and fifth graders. Each student will receive a two-hour Jilly's Fun Card as well as pizza, doughnuts and refreshments. The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Arcade, 1168 Boardwalk.

OCHS Student Organizes Prom Dress Giveaway

Nicole Carey, a senior at Ocean City High School, wanted to continue a tradition that her sister began two years ago – helping others to enjoy the big prom night without the worry of purchasing pricey gowns. Nicole’s sister, Stephanie, who graduated from OCHS last year, began a prom dress giveaway in 2020 through Becca's Closet. With her big sister away at Drexel University majoring in fashion, Nicole wanted to keep the dress giveaway going to help take some of the stress and worry out of buying outfits for the special night.
