Saturday afternoon, even though almost 4000 other people were about to attempt to get their hands on the prizes inside the Easter eggs scattered along the beach, Logan Schneider, 6, was confident that he would gather the most.

“I think I’ll get 40”, he answered when asked how many of the colorful eggs he thought he would get.

Earlier that day, Boy Scout Troop 55 of Somers Point helped spread out eggs along the Ocean City beaches for 2-3-year-olds, efforts led by Assistant Scoutmaster George Whiteley. Scouts Zack R., Ben V., and Daniel I. were just some of the helping hands that brought this amazing day together.

Additionally, volunteers from the Somers Point – Mainland Babe Ruth League helped spread some of the 77,000 eggs that were placed for the hunt.

Children’s baskets were overflowing, so it would be a safe bet to say everyone had fun. The event was sponsored by the Ocean City New Jersey’s Boardwalk Merchant’s Association. In addition to candy, the eggs contained coupons that contained discounts or free items from local shops.

Different areas were cordoned off for different age groups. There was also a section for children who might be uncomfortable with the mayhem of the egg hunt or need assistance with the egg collection. The organizers took steps to assure that all children could participate in the festivities.

Like many families, the Schneider family of Broomall, PA, enjoys coming down every year for the fun-filled adventure.
