The public will get a rare chance to walk out on the 14th Street Pier 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, and again 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.

The historic Ocean City Fishing Club (OCFC) will hold the first of two Open Houses this summer from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the clubhouse and pier at 14th Street and the Boardwalk.

This popular event, now in its third year, is part of Ocean City’s Family Fun Nights on the Boardwalk.

“It’s a rare opportunity for visitors to walk out on our 635-foot fishing pier, watch  surfcasting demonstrations, take wonderful photographs, learn about our remarkable history, and meet club members,” said club president Augie Conte, Jr., of Ocean City and Cherry Hill.

During last year’s Open House in mid-August, a total of 727 men, women and children toured the facility. As in the past, visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or cash donations for the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Food Cupboard. Since the first Open House during its centennial celebration in 2013, the club has received more than 500 pounds of food for the needy.

This second Open House in 2015 is set for Thursday, August 6, also from 6 to 8 p.m.

Founded in 1913, the Ocean City Fishing Club is the oldest, continuously operating fishing club in the nation.
