The Ocean City Free Public Library launched a redesigned website last week, and the new site offers an easy-to-use gateway to all the library’s resources.

John Ruban, head of technology at the library, said the redesign has been a year in the making and started with former library director Chris Maloney and he recognizing that the library’s online catalog and website were a little “stale.”
They worked with Delaware.net to provide an updated interface with a look similar to the City of Ocean City’s website. The library spent about $7,000 on the redesign, Ruban said.
The new site reflects the extension of a modern library far beyond bricks, mortar and books. OceanCityLibrary.Org, among other things, lets users:
- Download free music in .MP3 format
- Download books and audiobooks to an eReader
- Access videos on demand
- Search the archives of the Ocean City Sentinel-Ledger from 1893 to 2011
- Search an archive of city documents and City Council minutes
- Search online databases for a vast range of information — from genealogy to law to medical data.
New features include a home page slider highlighting the most popular website features and a more user-friendly events calendar.
