February 24, 2017

Dear Friends,

I presented my annual State of the City address last night, and I outlined much of the work we have planned and completed for the benefit of taxpayers. We still have much to do. But with the city team, City Council and the community working together, I’m confident we’ll keep up the momentum. See the full text of the 2017 State of the City.

I also delivered to City Council a draft of a proposed 2017 municipal budget. I want to thank Frank Donato, his Finance Department and the entire city team for their work in creating another responsible plan. Debt service and downpayments on all of the road, drainage and infrastructure work we’re completing contributes to a tax rate increase of 2.85 cents in the draft. City Council will consider the proposed budget during public meetings over the course of the next two months, and I encourage you all to participate in the process. Donato will deliver a budget overview presentation at the next council meeting on March 9.

The U.S. Post Office branch on the 4500 block of West Avenue reopened today after installation of a new ADA-compliant ramp. All services and P.O. boxes are now available during regular hours 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday. I want to thank everybody for their patience during this work to improve accessibility for all.

I hope you’re all enjoying this mild weather. It’s been a treat for February. And I hope you all have a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian Mayor
