Hooked on Houses: Night in Venice at “Four Decks”

This Night in Venice Party has been raging for years on the North Point Lagoon. Same party, new location- the iconic “Four Decks” house.  After purchasing their home in 2015 the reigns were passed over to Kirk & Suzy.  For as long as I can remember the event was hosted by Kirk’s parents.  Their summer home is located just a kayak ride away on the same lagoon.

Over the years the themes have varied- Western, Disco, Prehistoric times, and even the 80’s. Costumes are required, and everyone gets into the spirit. The house is wrapped to match the theme, and the music sets the stage.  The continuation of this event is a perfect example of Ocean City traditions being passed down year after year.

The “Four Decks” house has under gone a major transformation since being purchased.   Built in 1936 the home has not changed hands all that many times.  The exterior has been sided, new windows installed, decks repaired, landscape updated, and a permanent bar installed on the bayside of the house.  It is a perfect setup for each Night in Venice party.  Aptly named, the view from each one of these decks is showstopping.  The age of the home is reflected in the layout.  At the time this was built, air conditioning was not an option.  As a result, the bedrooms are all situated to face the lagoon.  This allowed for the cool breezes at night.  The top floor bunkroom hosts a multitude of guests, and the same is true here of the design.  The cool bay breezes can gently blow through the room, lulling one to sleep.  The original character of the house remains intact throughout.    Knotty pine paneling, craftsman woodwork, original floors, and even the hatch door to the third-floor bunkroom are evidence of the timeframe in which the house was built.

This year the hosts have asked their guest to dress as their favorite TV character from any decade. To SEA More of this iconic home as well as some before and during shots of this Night in Venice Party, follow Sea More with Maureen on Facebook, or like Sea More with Maureen on Instagram.
