OCHS Field Hockey Team Tops Mainland

Ocean City High School’s field hockey team launched an offensive onslaught against the visiting Mainland Mustangs, winning 11-1 on Saturday. The win raises Ocean City’s record to 8-2, while Mainland drops to 5-4. Six different Ocean City players recorded a goal in the game, with an additional three Red Raiders adding an assist. Tara McNally led the scoring, tallying four goals and one assist. On the defensive end, Norah Bridgeford had five saves in goal.

O.C. Boys Soccer Bounces Back With Big Win

The Ocean City High School boys soccer team defeated visiting Lower Cape May on Thursday afternoon, 5-0. The win brings the Red Raiders’ record to 7-1, while Lower Cape May drops to 5-3. The scoring was even across the board, with six players recording a goal or an assist for Ocean City. John Lindsay and Reed Lindsay both had a goal and an assist on the afternoon.

BHHS Congratulates O.C. Office on National Award

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach Realtors announced that the Ocean City Simpson Avenue-Ninth Street sales office is being recognized as the third quarter 2020 award winners for gross commission income and/or residential units in the entire national BHHS network of nearly 50,000 agents and 1,450 offices in 47 states.

County Warns Against “COVID Fatigue”

Cape May County officials are warning residents against “COVID Fatigue” and remind people of the necessary precautions in the colder winter months. There has been a rise in cases both nationally and in New Jersey over the past month. Slowing the spread will keep fellow county residents and the economy healthy, the county said in a news release Tuesday. Key steps for people to take include wearing a face covering, keeping six feet of social distance, being outdoors for group settings as much as possible, proper sanitation of high touch surfaces, and frequent hand washing.

Strong Winds Expected Through Monday

Strong winds are expected along the coast through Monday night, according to a weather alert from the Cape May County Office of Emergency Management. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph are likely on Monday, especially in the morning. Stronger wind gusts are possible. Scattered power outages and tree damage should be expected during this time period. A Wind Advisory is in effect.

Mayor’s Message: Oct. 30

Mayor Jay Gillian says Ocean City's pumping stations did a good job in helping to protect the neighborhoods from a lingering storm the past two days. "More than three inches of rain, an approaching full moon and strong onshore winds combined over the past two days to cause the highest water levels of the year in Ocean City. While there were pockets of moderate flooding throughout the city during this morning’s peak tide, I’m very pleased with the success of our pumping station projects," he said in his weekly mayor's message Friday. His entire message follows, including an announcement about the cancellation of the Christmas Parade, First Night celebration and other holiday events in response to the pandemic.

Flood Advisory Extended Through Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch in effect for Ocean City through 1 p.m. Friday. Heavy rainfall, steady onshore winds gusting up to 45 mph, and higher-than-normal full moon tides will cause minor flooding over three tide cycles.

Ocean City Continues Winning Streak, Defeats Holy Spirit, 9-0

The Ocean City Red Raiders field hockey team notched its sixth win of the season with a 9-0 defeat Wednesday over the visiting Spartans of Holy Spirit.  The win brings Ocean City’s record to 6-1, while Holy Spirit drops to 1-5. Leading the scoring for the Raiders was Tara McNally with five goals on the evening.  Fellow senior Sophia Ruh recorded a goal and two assists and Carly Hanin, Nya Gilchrist and Katie Bowman rounded out the goal scoring for Ocean City.

Traditional trick-or-treating hours for Ocean City will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. It is important this year for both trick-or-treaters and families putting out treats to plan for a safe and healthy holiday. The city also will sponsor a Halloween House Decorating Contest and a holiday event at the Skate Park. Details follow.
