Bea Pinkerton is registered to compete in the Ocean City Triathlon on Sunday.

While being in a triathlon is already considered to be a major accomplishment, Pinkerton takes it up a notch.

The Ocean City resident will likely be the oldest person in the event at age 91.

The triathlon has been held for more than 30 years and Pinkerton has been an inspiration to her fellow competitors while finishing year after year, according to a city news release.

The run-bike-run portion starts at 9 a.m., with Pinkerton expected to finish some time shortly after 11 a.m.

The OCNJ Triathlon also features biking.

Registration is still open to compete in the triathlon. The low-key race includes a quarter-mile pool swim (timed separately), followed by a two-mile run, 16-mile bike ride and a final two-mile run. The Duathlon follows the same course without the swim.

A kids’ course includes a one-eighth-mile swim, one-mile run, eight-mile bike ride and one-mile run. The pool swim must be completed between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. The run-bike-run starts at 9 a.m.

Lisa Rumer is the race director. To reach Rumer, email her at lrumer@ocnj.us
