Friends and family are asking for help after a Mays Landing man was critically injured by a NJ Transit train this week.

Tyree Montford, 40, was struck around 11:40 p.m. Monday near the Jersey Avenue Station in New Brunswick, Middlesex County.

The crash was reported by NJ.com.

He suffered severe injuries and currently is in a coma, Aseealah Love told BreakingAC.

Montford is a single father raising Nyree, a senior at Oakcrest High School who plays basketball and is on the wrestling team. Montford also is the grandfather of a 6-month-old boy.

"It’s hard to put into words the pain, fear and uncertainty our family is facing right now," his brother Lashawn Russell wrote on the GoFundMe. "He’s always been someone who shows up for his family and brightens a room with his jokes and laughter. Now he’s facing a long, overwhelming road of surgeries, rehabilitation and learning how to live again in a completely new way."

They also are trying to fulfill a calendar of help for the family, from meals to baby formula to monetary donations.

Volunteers can sign up to help through Love, who is president of  AWISH, or Agape Water International  Safe Haven

Montford's mother, Karen, is not working so she can care for the family.

"As (Tyree) fights to recover, the financial burden continues to grow — medical bills, life enrichment equipment, therapy, and the everyday responsibilities of being a father and now a grandfather," his brother wrote in the GoFundMe. "We’re asking from the bottom of our hearts for any support you can give, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this message. Every bit helps ease the weight he’s carrying and gives him a chance to focus on healing and being there for his family."

The NJ.com story says Montford was accused of trespassing on the tracks, but Love said he was getting to the train to return home.
