All eyes will be on the sky in Ocean City when it is an all-things planes weekend, Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Airport Festival and Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow.

And with the Atlantic City Airshow, which was held every August, canceled this year, airshow lovers will still have their fill of excitement and entertainment in Ocean City.

To start off the weekend right, the city’s airport festival, which is held at the municipal airport at 26th Street and Bay Avenue, will feature planes on display from new to classics. The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14.

Dan Kelchner, director of the city’s department of Community Services, said Thursday that visitors can expect an action-packed weekend filled with thrills and excitement.

And he noted that “with the Atlantic City show canceled, we will be the only airshow around and it will be a great one.”

“Airshow weekend is another fantastic tradition that provides entertainment for all ages. At the airport festival on Saturday, there will be planes and emergency responder vehicles on display, vendors, food trucks, and the first of three parachute jumps that weekend from Team Fastrax.”

In addition, there will be music and plenty of food choices.

And later Saturday evening, weather permitting, will be a Parachute Pyrotechnic Show at 8 p.m. performed by Team Fastrax. The show can be viewed from the entire Boardwalk, with the landing area on the beach at Seventh Street.

From this gleaming red and white plane on display in 2023, to an array of others, festivalgoers have plenty to see.

Kelchner said it is expected to be “even more exhilarating and a memorable sight to see” than the parachute team’s jump earlier in the day at the airport festival.

And on Sunday comes the main event – the Boardwalk Aerobatic Show. Get ready to head to the Boardwalk to watch as pilots from throughout the country dazzle the crowds. The show begins at 1 p.m. and can be viewed from the beach and the Boardwalk from Fifth Street to 14th Street.

In addition to Team Fastrax, Kelchner said other acts that will perform Sunday include pilots Scott Francis, Rick Volker, Kevin Russo & the Jersey Jerks, Full Throttle Airshows, a U.S. Coast Guard demonstration and much more.

Spectators look up to view some of the best stunt pilots and aerobatic champions in the world put on a breathtaking display of loops, rolls and dives to the excitement of the crowds.

“The show provides all kinds of entertainment with various flight demos and military planes,” Kelchner said. “It truly provides some excitement and family fun for everyone. Whether you watch from the beach, Boardwalk, or water, it is a must-see event for the entire family.”
