By MADDY VITALE Labor Day weekend in Ocean City is jam-packed with plenty of events and activities to keep vacationers entertained. And that is just a part of it. With the miles of beaches, the bay, the Boardwalk with its amusements, the downtown with its shopping, and restaurants all over the island, there will be no time for boredom. Not to mention the weekend weather forecast in the comfortable low 80s and mostly sunny. While there may be some clouds and rain on Labor Day, families will still have a host of things to do at the shore to take advantage of their last summer vacation before the kids go back to school. Michele Gillian, Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce executive director, said Friday that Labor Day may be the unofficial end of summer, but it definitely does not mean an end to all of the attractions and activities that keep visitors coming back long after the waning days of the peak tourism season. “Labor Day weekend is a special time of year in Ocean City. It signals the end of our summer season and the beginning of our second season,” Gillian explained. “Our second season in Ocean City is packed with fun, family-oriented events and beautiful weather.” Visitors stroll the Boardwalk in the late afternoon Friday. (Photo courtesy of Ocean City) Gillian also reflected on the significance of the holiday weekend. “Labor Day weekend also gives us a chance to celebrate all the hard work our business owners and employees perform,” she said. “Part of Ocean City’s beauty is all the friendly people who strive to provide an enjoyable experience in America’s Greatest Family Resort,” she said, noting the city’s slogan. So, whether lounging on the beach, taking a boat ride in the bay, doing a little shopping in the downtown or just people watching on the boards, this weekend, like so many other Labor Day weekends in Ocean City, will mean relaxation for families who will gather to enjoy the last bit of summer. And don’t forget about the shows. On Sunday, Sept. 4, the Ocean City Pops Orchestra will be performing at 7:30 p.m. with “Three Tenors Return.” The mix of singers – two from the opera and one from musical theater – creates what has been described as one of the most compelling tenors shows in the country. For tickets visit oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice, call 609-399-6111 or stop by the welcome centers at City Hall, the Route 52 causeway or the Music Pier Box Office. On Labor Day, the city will celebrate with its 31st annual Labor Day Race on the beach at 23rd Street.

The races start at 9 a.m., and race-day registration opens at 7:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.ocnj.us/OCNJ-LABOR-DAY-RACE. The following weekend, a classic car show on the Boardwalk is scheduled for Sept. 10. And the following day, a Corvette show will feature more than 350 cars also on the Boardwalk. Gillian emphasized the Chamber and the city’s appreciation for the families who come to Ocean City for their getaways. “We are also thankful for all the people who support our local businesses,” she noted. “Ocean City is truly a special place in so many or our hearts.” For a full list of events through the coming months visit, www.oceancityvacation.com The OC Pops will perform Sept. 4 at the Music Pier.
