Dear Friends,
Multiple crews are working through the summer on the north end neighborhood drainage project. In the coming week, concrete crews will restore curb gutter and sidewalks on Fourth Street between West Avenue and Bay Avenue. Separate crews will install new drainage pipes on Third Street, Fifth Street and Sixth Street (also between West and Bay).
The contractor anticipates a start on reconstructing an elevated West Avenue in front of the Ocean City Primary School next week. Paving on some streets (including Second Street and the 100 and 200 blocks of Simpson Avenue and Haven Avenue) will begin immediately after the elevation and paving of West Avenue. I understand that the magnitude of this mid-summer construction work is an inconvenience and disruption to residents and visitors in the area. But the green light to work through the summer will help bring the project to a close much more quickly. In the end, the neighborhood will enjoy a new $8 million drainage system powered by three pumping stations.
Concrete work and the paving of most streets in the Fourth Ward neighborhood drainage project are complete. The focus of work will now turn to installing the four pumping stations that will be essential to draining floodwaters from the area. Crews are also restoring landscaping damaged by the project.
Construction of the new outfall pipe on the beach at Sixth Street is complete. It is the latest in a series of planned upgrades that will help drain water from the beach blocks.
It looks like we’ll get a break from the heat this weekend, and I hope you all get a chance to enjoy the beach, boardwalk, bay and downtown. There are three great shows on the Ocean City Music Pier. On Saturday, “New York State of Mind” pays tribute to the songs of Billy Joel in a concert that benefits our Ocean City VFW post. On Sunday, four great vocalists join the Ocean City Pops for “Disney in Concert: Magical Music From the Movies.” The concert will showcase the Music Pier’s new video screens with clips from Disney favorites. On Monday, the Indigo Girls perform in the ongoing 2018 Summer Concert Series. Stop by the Music Pier Box Office or visit
