Ocean City School District art students will take their talents beyond the classroom in the third annual Arts Showcase on the Boardwalk.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at the Ocean City Music Pier. Admission is free.

Community members can check out a wide range of student-created 2D and 3D media, including paintings, drawings, photography, graphic design and clay sculptures. Students also will perform during the event.

Adriana Palmer, the art and photography teacher at Ocean City High School, makes sure student work from pre-K through grade 12 is represented in the showcase.

“We hope students gain a strong sense of pride and confidence by sharing their work with the community, while also developing their artistic voice through real-world experience,” Palmer said in a news release promoting the art show.

“The showcase provides an opportunity for students to see the value of their creativity beyond the classroom, build presentation and performance skills, and feel recognized for their hard work. Just as importantly, it fosters a sense of connection and belonging, showing students that their talents have a meaningful place within the Ocean City community,” Palmer continued.

The showcase will feature a maker’s space and dance and music performances from 11 to 4 p.m. A reception starts at 4 p.m.

Student performers will include Jack McAllister (rhythm guitar & vocals), Aiden Hackett (lead guitar), Jack Chickadel (lead guitar), and a second group with Cooper Lloyd (guitar/vocals), Ryan Shelton (drums) and Miles Reischke (bass). The high school dance team will also showcase its talent with a special performance.

“We are just as excited for the Arts Showcase as our students are,” Superintendent of Schools Christian Angelillo said. “It’s an opportunity for the district to connect with the community, and for our talented students to get positive feedback from their friends and neighbors. We appreciate all that our teachers do to develop our students’ artistic talents and confidence, and events like this are an important part of that process.”

The event is sponsored by the Ocean City Free Public Library, the City of Ocean City and local merchants. For more about the Ocean City School District, visit ocsdnj.org.
