Ocean City High School’s yearbook club and literary magazine club put their creative minds together for a festive collaboration with the Ocean City community and city officials.

Known as “Pumpkins in the Park,” it will feature decorated pumpkins by roughly 40 students.

The two clubs, led by Heather Cox (yearbook) and Jenna Scioli (literary magazine), received permission from city officials to create the autumn walk at Memorial Park, complete with lights so community members can enjoy it day or night.

The official walk will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, but the pumpkins will continue to be on display for visitors all weekend and week leading up to Halloween.

“Our students put so much heart and creativity into their projects,” OCHS Principal Wendy O’Neal said in a news release. “It’s important for them to share that with our community. Not only does it build confidence, but it also connects them with the local community in a meaningful way.”

Pumpkins were donated by Friends of OCNJ History & Culture, a group of enthusiastic neighbors that share a love of Ocean City’s historic buildings, storied past, and thriving seaside culture.

“We’re grateful for our community partnerships and the support we receive from other organizations for the well-being and success of our students,” Ocean City School District Superintendent Christian Angelillo said in the release. “It’s important that we continue to empower our students, inspire creativity and cultivate collaboration.”
