Joey Miller Is Passionate About People
In a recent interview,
Joey Miller explained how life challenges have shaped his career and the man he is today. He became a father for the first time in high school and later lost both of his parents. These experiences opened his eyes to lead with empathy and compassion, prioritizing people over dollar signs.
"At my parents' funeral, they were surrounded by friends, family, and community," he says. "They built relationships and shared a lot of love. Life is about balance, keeping modest debt, and sharing time with loved ones. It's about being there for your friends, family, and community and donating time and money to the underprivileged. It's important to provide a safe place or home for loved ones in need and to call your friends, clients, and family to check in on them and support them through their lives."
Miller believes that challenging times are normal and never last forever. "I remain calm and patient and wait for the storm to pass to get to better times," he says. "I financially build up a reserve to sustain hardship."
Miller Leads With A Resilient Spirit
Miller's superpower is willpower. "I won't give up. I find a way. I push forward," he explains. "I use relationships to gain knowledge and find what works and what doesn't. I often have to adapt to a system others use more successfully than we may be using. And I'm always looking for a better result."
For Joey, success is not just about financial achievements but about the quality of relationships and contributions to the community.
"I work on our school fundraising board to provide our athletic programs capital," he shares. "I also help with a large fundraiser to help with specific athletic needs. I have recently been on the bond committee for the city to help spread the message on what bills are coming out for the development of our schools in our community. I have applied for the last few years to work at Wurstfest, a 10-day community German festival."
Beyond Numbers – A Personal Touch
Joey Miller's approach to investing goes beyond mere numbers. Traveling across the United States, he conducts thorough investment research on risk management.
His journey to becoming a respected investment advisor is deeply rooted in his early experiences growing up in a blue-collar area in Oregon and working at the Albany Papermill.
His approach to risk management involves a comprehensive analysis of market trends, diversification of portfolios, and a focus on long-term investment strategies, all aimed at maximizing returns while minimizing risks for his clients. This approach has consistently delivered positive results, even in volatile market conditions.
"Working at the papermill as a single parent exposed me to the realities of hard work," Miller recalls. "I got a job at the mill when I was 21 and learned what long hours and rotating shifts were all about. I led the mill in overtime and made a nice living, but I was working incredible hours at a place without certainty of being around for the next 20 years."
Miller's fascination with managing his 401k sparked his interest in the markets. He immersed himself in learning about investing and networking with real estate investors, options traders, and value stock investors. His commitment to continuous learning and improvement is a testament to his adaptability and relevance in the ever-changing investment landscape.
Joey Miller's Background Shaped His Future
Before finding his passion for investing, Miller held several blue-collar jobs, from building cabinets and working at a motorhome company to clocking in at his hometown plants. These experiences gave him a unique perspective and helped him become a better investment advisor, as he understands the value of hard work, the challenges of different industries, and the importance of diverse investment strategies.
These experiences gave him a unique perspective and helped him become a better investment advisor.
Reflecting on his career journey, Miller shares a pivotal experience that shaped his career trajectory: "One of the most defining moments of my career was about two years after I left the papermill," Miller explains. "The mill closed down, and all the people I used to work with had to find other careers. I realized I wanted a career I loved that would never go away. One where my efforts and work values would allow me to stay in the field I loved and help people I cared about get a good return in the marketplace. One that wouldn't simply disappear due to the political environment."
Miller's life has been a testament to resilience, from his early days as a young father to his current role as a successful investment advisor. He has weathered the storms of projects not paying on time, economic shifts, and projects not closing out on time. Yet, his diversification and patience have always proven to be his guiding lights in times of frustration.
Miller shares a particularly challenging experience from his early career as a cabinet maker.
"I built all the cabinets and was scheduled for delivery. I was only 26 then and needed to install them over the weekend because I had another job on Monday morning. When I arrived at the job site, there was no power or lights due to an outage. I had traveled a long way, so I borrowed a generator, brought in lighting, and worked all night to meet the deadline and be at work on time Monday morning," he recalls.
"All these years later, challenges always come up, so being flexible and patient have been important to overcome what life may throw at you."
Joey Miller Found A Career He Loves Helping People
Recognizing the limitations of teaching people to invest for themselves, Miller obtained his security licenses and started investing directly for people. "I realized that no matter how well I taught people to invest for themselves, they would constantly break the rules or, quite frankly, didn't have the time," he says.
This insight led him to a new chapter in his career, where he could directly impact his clients' financial success.
Miller's dedication to his craft and clients is evident in his approach to investing and life. "Traveling and conducting research allows me to stay ahead of the curve," he says. "But it's the balance between my professional and personal life that truly defines my success."
Miller's journey from a blue-collar worker to a respected investment advisor showcases his resilience, adaptability, and commitment to making a difference. His story is a powerful reminder that success is within reach with hard work, dedication, and a focus on relationships.
"As a leader, you must be calm, patient, enthusiastic, and gracious," Joey Miller says. "I rarely get outworked or take a sick day, but I understand that I can't hold others to the same standard. Instead, I aim to model these values, especially during challenging times. A leader needs to take charge while respecting others' views, make tough decisions, and prepare for difficult times even when things are going well. It's essential to be forgiving and kind."
