How long does it take for you to see the results of a link-building strategy?

Everyone wants their website to rank high on Google as fast as possible. To achieve this, SEO experts turn to link-building. But as time goes by and nothing happens, the concerning question that usually arises is - how long does it take to see the results of this strategy?

As there are no easy answers to that question, we decided to consult with Alpha Efficiency. Their experts helped us understand what factors impact the success of the link-building approach, and we decided to share our conclusions with you.

Factors that impact the results of a link-building strategy

To get results from link-building faster, you must first know what factors have an impact on the success of this strategy. So let's start:

  1. Backlink relevance

It does not necessarily mean that you will benefit from having a backlink on a website just because it looks good at first sight. Acquiring one link on a relevant website is better than getting many links on unrelated websites.

  1. Quality of a website

Today, quality is more important than quantity in search engine optimization. To ensure that it’s worth pursuing a backlink from a website you find interesting, check:

  • Domain ranking and Domain authority - the higher the better. Chasing a backlink from the website with DR & DA less than 20 might not be worth the effort.

  • How many keywords the website ranks for - good websites rank for many different keywords, and it is worth obtaining a backlink from them.

  • How much organic traffic the website generates per month - higher number of organic visitors will help you get better results from a backlink.

  1. Anchor text types

Anchor text should be relevant to the web page it’s linking to, as Google’s algorithms can actually recognize what the anchor text is suggesting. To help you understand this concept better, we created a list of five different anchor text types:

  • Exact match anchor text - this one targets the exact keyword you’re trying to rank for

  • Partial match anchor text - only partially matches the keyword you’re targeting, but it sounds more natural in a sentence.

  • Branded anchor text - uses the name of your company in the anchor text.

  • Generic anchor text - when the anchor consists of generic phrases (such as - read more, click here, find out, and more)

  1. Web page types

Content pages are generally preferred by search engines compared to commercial pages. They also target more keywords. To see results faster, try getting your link on pages with high-quality content.

  1. Link velocity

Another factor that influences a website's link profile is called link velocity. It is essentially the number of new backlinks your website has obtained over a certain period. High link velocity is good, as it indicates that a website is well-known and trusted by many. Imagine backlinks as a vote of confidence from one website to another.

The quickest way to increase link velocity is by creating viral content that other websites will share.

  1. Niche competition

To improve your SEO you must constantly analyze your competitors. The same applies if you want your link-building strategy to be effective. After careful analysis of their website’s link profile, you will get a much clearer picture of what might work.

  • Check where their backlinks come from

  • What links rank best

  • Hold in mind that as your pages start ranking higher in search engines, it will be harder and harder to overtake your competitors’ positions on the SERP.

To get results faster, you must always be one step ahead of the competition.

  1. Number of links in an article

Ideally, you want an article to only have one link, which leads to your website. This improves the chances that people will actually click on the link. However, don’t be strict with this, as one or two additional links might actually

  1. Budget

As you might have already learned from outreaching out to different websites, link-building is not free. The price per link depends on many factors, and some sources suggest that an average cost is in the $350-$500 range. The success of your link-building strategy will depend on the budget you allocate for it. Careful analysis can help you get better results for less cost.

Important question: When can you expect to see the results?

-Minimum three to twelve months.

Even when done perfectly, it can take some time for link-building efforts to have an effect. Web crawlers discover the content by following links, and it generally takes a minimum of three months for a link to become indexed by Google. But it can even take more than a year to see meaningful results. So try not to panic if the results are not there immediately, especially if your website is new. Being patient is crucial during the link-building process.

And remember that link-building should only be one piece of your SEO strategy. There are many search engine ranking factors, and it’s sometimes hard to determine exactly what brought the positive results. If you’re not an expert, hiring an SEO agency might be the best choice.
