Ocean City Captures Dominating Win in Battle at the Beach

Ocean City High School opened its season Thursday in impressive style with a dominating 35-7 win over Cinnaminson during the Battle at the Beach football showcase at Carey Stadium.

Among the thousands of fans attending all four games at the Battle at the Beach was Bill Belichick, the former New England Patriots coach and six-time Super Bowl champ.

Belichick watched from the Tom Williams Press Box during the game between national powerhouses IMG Academy of Florida and Bergen Catholic of Oradell, N.J. IMG won, 27-14.

Considered one of the premier high school football events in the country, the Battle at the Beach returned to Ocean City this year after a hiatus in 2023 caused by a scheduling conflict.

Propelling Ocean City to its win over Cinnaminson were running backs Triston Schmidt and Clay Compton, who both scored two touchdowns.

In the two other games Thursday at Carey Stadium, Mainland defeated Atlantic City, 30-18, and Manchester Township pulled out a 26-21 win over West Deptford.

After opening in Ocean City Thursday, the Battle at the Beach shifted to Egg Harbor Township High School for 10 games Friday and Saturday.
