Ocean City Police Officer Charged With Stalking

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief of Detectives Paul Skill announced the arrest of Jacob M. Harris, a 32-year-old resident of Egg Harbor Township and officer for the Ocean City Police Department. On Jan. 26, the Lower Township Police Department was called to a residence for a report of a tracking device found on a vehicle. Further investigation revealed the device was connected to Harris, according to a news release. The incident was investigated by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit. As a result of the investigation, Harris was charged on Jan. 27 with one count of stalking, a fourth-degree crime. The Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately release further details about the alleged stalking incident. Harris was arrested without incident and later released on a summons pending court proceedings. He is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of his criminal proceedings, the news release stated. Defendants convicted of a fourth-degree crime can be sentenced up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
