Lee Greenwood to Perform With O.C. Pops

Country music singer-songwriter Lee Greenwood will join the Ocean City Pops for a special concert at the Music Pier on Thursday, Sept. 1. Greenwood holds a special place in the hearts of Ocean City residents and visitors, because his 1984 hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” has been a part of the daily Boardwalk flag-raising ceremony every summer for more than 20 years. He will make his debut with the Ocean City Pops and perform hits such as “IOU” and “Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands,” along with a few surprises. The Pops’ 2022 season continues through Sept. 17, and there are plenty of other highlights on the schedule. The Duprees return to the Music Pier to perform with the Pops on Sunday, Aug. 28. Audiences around the country have enjoyed the timeless doo-wop sound of these Jersey City legends for decades. Celebrate the 60th anniversary of their first hit single, “My Own True Love.” The Aug. 24 Pops show features four of the best opera students in the country – the “Academy of Vocal Arts Superstars.” The “Three Tenors” return to perform with the Pops on Sept. 4. The Sept. 10 “Rock and Radio” show will feature some of the biggest pop songs of all time. ALSO THIS WEEK: Aug. 24 – Wacky Wednesday – Taffy Sculpting: Use your creativity to shape and sculpt Shriver’s salt water taffy into your very own creation. The contest is free and open to all ages. Start time is 10:30 a.m. at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and Boardwalk. This is the final Wacky Wednesday of the season. For more information, call 609-399-6111. The popular weekly Farmers Market on the grounds of the Ocean City Tabernacle is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 14. The market features the best of fresh produce from local farms in the region, along with a variety of craft vendors. Aug. 25 – Market Days: Entertainment and activities on downtown Asbury Avenue will run 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Aug. 25 – Family Night:
The final Family Night of the summer on Thursday will bring a variety of bands and entertainers to the Boardwalk from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 26 – Green Fair: Ocean City will host a Green Fair under the covered loggia of the Music Pier from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. The community-wide event is designed to educate and encourage people of all ages to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. The displays will allow attendees to learn about energy efficiency and incentives, participate in interactive activities and receive promotional items. The Green Fair is sponsored by the City of Ocean City and the Ocean City Environmental Commission. The event is free to attend.  Aug. 26-27 – “Shrek The Musical JR.:” Students of the Ocean City Theatre Company will round out the 2022 summer season with their version of “Shrek The Musical JR.” at the Music Pier on Aug. 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. This student adaptation features a cast of more than 40 students in grades 5 to 8 and is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation motion picture, fantastic Broadway musical and book by William Steig. Aug. 30 – Funtastic Tuesday: Entertainment and activities on downtown Asbury Avenue will run 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the final Funtastic Tuesday of the season. Aug. 30 – Mummers Night:  On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Mummers Night will return to the Boardwalk from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with string bands providing entertainment. Sept. 1 – Market Days: Entertainment and activities on downtown Asbury Avenue will run 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the final Market Days celebration of the season.
