Mayor's Message - June 4

  • News
Dear Friends, I want to thank all of the veterans and citizens who helped make our Memorial Day ceremony and boardwalk flag-raising dedication such a success. Both of these events are near and dear to my heart, and I’m sorry that I was not well enough to attend. But it’s great to know that we’re in good hands. Ocean City’s veterans groups are a true community resource, and they’re second to none. And it’s always heartwarming to see our residents and guests come out to honor and thank them.  The water company will be finishing up some work next week on West Avenue from 26th Street to 34th Street, and this will help us get started on our paving project in the fall. Work will take place next week to address drainage issues on Haven Avenue between 34th Street and 35th Street, near the Wawa Food Market. The program to provide free beach-accessible wheelchairs is now being run out of the 46th Street Welcome Center. The “Surf Chairs” will be available to borrow for up to a week at a time through Labor Day. Call 609-554-0352 for information, reservations or arrange delivery.
The changeover to the twice-a-week trash and recycling pickup schedule starts on Monday, June 14. Tickets for live entertainment in Ocean City are on sale now, and a limited number of tickets for the popular Monday night Summer Concert Series will be available for purchase by cash or check at the Ocean City Music Pier starting on Monday, June 7. Check here for a list of guarded beaches as of this weekend.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Warm regards, Jay A. Gillian Mayor
