Mayor’s Message: Jan. 22

  • News
Dear Friends, Many of you have asked about the possibility of getting the COVID-19 vaccine in Ocean City. I want you to know that I have volunteered the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center and any other large Ocean City venue as potential sites for vaccinations. We also have a small number of paramedics in the Ocean City Fire Department who could help administer vaccines. The problem is that the supply of vaccine is extremely low – our state needs vaccine. I share the frustration of everybody who is unable to make an appointment to be vaccinated. More than 4 million New Jerseyans are now eligible, but the state is receiving only about 100,000 doses per week. Right now our recommendation is to make sure to pre-register for vaccination at covid19.nj.gov/pages/vaccine
. Residents also can call the county Health Department at 609-463-6581 during working hours to register for and to schedule vaccinations. Starting on Monday (Jan. 25), the N.J. Department of Health will launch an interactive telephone service in both English and Spanish that will provide information on how to register for and schedule vaccinations. Live agents also will be available to guide residents through the process. The phone number will be (855) 568-0545. I will continue to push for an Ocean City vaccination site as greater supplies of vaccine become available. The Cape May County Department of Aging and Disability Services will offer its annual tax preparation assistance to Ocean City seniors. Residents can make appointments and get more information at www.cwfphilly.org or by calling 609-886-2784. We have reached the final week of trench work and detours on Bay Avenue before final repaving in the spring. The 800 block of Bay Avenue will reopen to all traffic today. At 14th Street, the contractor will complete pipeline work early next week. All new piping and trench restoration is expected to be complete by the end of next week. That will mark the start of a 90-day waiting period to allow the restored trenches to settle. Paving is anticipated to be complete well before Memorial Day. I hope you all have a great weekend. Warm regards, Mayor Jay A. Gillian
