Dear Friends,
The self-response rate for the 2020 U.S. Census in Cape May County remains low. A complete count is vital in determining funding and services for all members of our community. Residents can respond online at
2020census.gov or by phone at 844-330-2020 (English) or 844-468-2020 (Spanish). Even second homeowners should respond –
see more information.
The questionnaire will ask for the 12-digit census ID that was mailed to your Ocean City home. If you spent the winter in a different location but live in Ocean City for the majority of the year, please use the Census ID from your Ocean City address or follow the prompt “If you do not have a census ID, click here.” It’s important that you be counted in Ocean City.
It was an honor and a humbling experience on Tuesday to watch 99-year-old Francis X. McCormac be recognized for his service in World War II.
McCormac was named a Chevalier (Knight) of France’s National Order of the Legion of Honor. His nomination was based on his service as a signal corpsman in the U.S. Army, most notably during the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach and at the Battle of the Bulge. The French present this award as a sign of gratitude to the Allied Forces who helped liberate France.
I’m proud that McCormac is a part of our community, and I hope you all will join me in congratulating him and thanking him for his bravery and service. I also would like to thank Tom Tumelty and the American Legion not only for organizing this event but for all they do for veterans during the year.
I want to remind everybody to wear face coverings when out in the public, especially in crowded spots. Please do your part by having a mask on hand at all times and using it whenever you’re close to others outside of your family.
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
