The purpose of the pit is to provide access to the existing 20-inch and 12-inch DIP lines so that tie-in connections can be made. The pit will be there for approximately three months to accommodate the schedule for the completion of all other pipe work and the delivery of tie-in equipment (valves, wet taps, couplings and line stops). In the meantime, the pit will be secured with temporary fencing and covered with a steel plate. On Monday, one of the contractor's crews will start at 15th Street and proceed to install new PVC pipe going northward. The contractor's second crew will be excavating a second access pit between 8th and 9th Streets.
