Mayor’s Message: Dec. 11

  • News
Dear Friends, While Cape May County’s COVID positivity rate remains the lowest in the state, the number of cases continues to trend upward as we head toward the holidays and what would normally be lots of gatherings among family, friends and colleagues. Local hospital officials reported in a call this week that the number of hospitalized COVID patients is holding steady at a manageable level, and they also said that some frontline health care workers could be vaccinated as soon as this month. But we still have a long way to go before a vaccine is widely available to everybody. Better days are in sight, but until then we all must continue to wear masks, avoid indoor gatherings, wash hands and do whatever we can to limit the spread of the virus – for the sake of the entire community. I know we’re all growing tired of this, and the isolation is taking a toll on mental health for many. My city team is working with local professionals to gather information on resources for anybody who may need help during these trying times. We will make these resources available to the public through the city website and other avenues. We are also working with the school district as we navigate these uncharted waters. It has been an extremely difficult year for students, parents and teachers alike, but we are all in this together. I have offered whatever assistance the city can provide, and the city and district are working together to communicate with the public. I want to recognize and appreciate the efforts of the school administration and staff in continuing their educational mission during this exceptional time. I also want to acknowledge the sacrifices of the school families in town. I hope you all have a great weekend among close family and stay well. Warm regards, Mayor Jay A. Gillian
