Bay Avenue Construction Update

  • News
The contractor overseeing Bay Avenue's reconstruction has completed the installation of the new 20-inch diameter PVC pipe, backfilled and temporarily paved over the entire length of the project. Bay Avenue is currently open to two lanes of traffic. The next phase of work involves the commissioning of the air release chambers (ARCs) that are distributed throughout the length of the project, and the piping tie-in work at the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority’s 20th Street Pump Station. While this work is ongoing, which is expected to continue through the week, no major traffic shutdowns are expected. Traffic control will be handled with lane shifts.
It is expected that the new 20-inch PVC pipe will become operational in early May, at which time the slip-lining of the existing 20-inch diameter force main will begin. The slip-lining phase of the project is expected to extend to mid to late June. It is not expected that large traffic detours will be required while slip-lining is ongoing and that traffic control will consist of lane shifts. See full project update
