Mayor's Message: Sept. 13

  • News
Dear Friends, With Labor Day now behind us, work on capital improvements will resume in many areas of town. City Council last night authorized seeking bids on three fall road projects:
  • Roads and alleys between 10th Street and 12th Street
  • Roads and alleys between 48th Street and 54th Street
  • Roads and alleys between 25th Street and 30th Street
See www.ocnj.us/Capital-Projects-Roads-and-Drainage
for detail on exactly which roads will be improved. Work already has begun on a Cape May County emergency project to replace the wastewater pipelines that run underneath Bay Avenue from 8th Street to 31st Street. The latest update on the construction and traffic schedule is available here: www.ocnj.us/projectupdate. Jersey Central Power and Light in October will begin soil and groundwater remediation at the site of a former manufactured gas plant at 11th Street and West Avenue. The location currently houses an Atlantic City Electric substation. The focus of the work will be the installation of a groundwater pump and treatment system, along with the removal of some soil. Rights of way along Haven Avenue and 11th Street could be affected. Demolition and remediation of the gas stations at the intersection of Ninth Street and West Avenue also is scheduled to begin in October. This work may temporarily limit one outbound lane of travel. Federal contractors will return this winter to replenish beaches and dunes from Seaspray Road to the 14th Street Pier and also from about 49th Street to Corson’s Inlet State Park. The contract will be awarded later this month. We will not know the exact schedule until the contractor is in place. Two mechanical dredging projects are planned for the 2019-20 off-season.
  • Back Bay North: North Point Lagoon, Second Street Marina and Bayside Center
  • Back Bay Central: Snug Harbor, Glen Cove, and parts of Sunny Harbor, South Harbor and Bluefish Lagoon
