The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. These conditions are created by Hurricane Dorian, which will be well out to sea as it passes by Ocean City on Friday. Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side of Ocean City at 2:55 p.m. Forecasters project a tide of 5.7 feet on the mean low water scale (MLW). This projection falls into the category of “minor” tidal flooding. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides
to compare these predictions to other recent and historic tide levels. Residents should monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience tidal flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades. The National Weather Service also issued a High Surf Advisory in effect from 2 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday. The surf will build rapidly through Friday, and swimming conditions will be dangerous. Please avoid the ocean on Friday as the storm passes. Rough surf will continue through the weekend as the weather improves. Remember to swim only at beaches guarded by the Ocean City Beach Patrol. See list. For Police and Fire Department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 609-399-9111.
