Students Take Center Stage in the Musical Pippin Saturday Night

  • Things To Do
The Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company will present, “PIPPIN” on July 29th at the Ocean City Music Pier. Show time is 7:30 PM.  This fully staged production will feature a cast of select High School students from across the Delaware Valley and is under the Direction of Billy D. Hart and Erin Whitcomb. With an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant.  Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), Pippin has been successfully produced on stages ranging from High School to Broadway.  Sweeping the New York Awards circuit (Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle) in 2013, Pippin continues to captivate and appeal to the young at heart throughout the world. Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment.  He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day. Pippin is the perfect coming of age story for student performers and OCTC has added their own twist setting this production on the beaches and boardwalk of OCNJ! Tickets are $12-$15 and can be purchased by calling
609-399-6111, logging onto oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice or by visiting the Box Office of the Ocean City Music Pier. This production is sponsored by Joan Readding. The Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company is an innovative and fresh approach to arts education in itself. This program auditions students from 6th - 12th grade (from Ocean City and it’s surrounding areas) and allows them to work with a professional production staff to create hands on performing opportunities. Participants take part in classes, rehearse and perform a full-scale musical with professional designers and directors. "PIPPIN" features students in the High School Jr Co. The Middle School Jr Co will present "SEUSSICAL" August 25 and 26 at the Ocean City Music Pier. PIPPIN, is produced by special arrangement with the Music Theatre International (MTI), New York, NY.
