Mayor's Update 9-30

  • News
Mayor-Jay-Gillian.4Dear Friends, I’d like to remind everybody that I’ve planned a town hall meeting for Thursday to discuss the Ninth Street corridor. I encourage everybody to attend and participate at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 in the main auditorium at the Ocean City Tabernacle. A brief presentation will outline past efforts and present options to preserve open space and beautify the gateway to Ocean City. As with all city projects, we hope to take a total approach, so that any related issues might be addressed at the same time. So please come with your questions, concerns and ideas for Ninth Street from bay to boardwalk. We have a rare opportunity right now to acquire properties that would make a difference, and I want to be sure to have full input from the public. fire-house-3-4
A work crew began demolishing the fire station at 29th Street on Thursday. Firefighters are operating from temporary quarters nearby at the Ocean City Municipal Airport. If everything goes according to schedule, the new station at 29th Street should be complete, and firefighters moved back in by Memorial Day in 2017. Public safety always will be a top priority in Ocean City, and the new station will be vital in maintaining the exceptional response times our residents and guests have come to know and expect. Finally, I’d like everybody to take note that the Atlantic City Electric restoration work that had been scheduled for this week will now take place on Tuesday. The utility company anticipates 30-minute outages for some downtown and north-end areas between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Oct. 4. Thank you in advance for your patience as this work is completed. See more information and a map of locations. Warm regards, Jay A. Gillian Mayor
