Ocean City Junior Raiders Round-Up

  • Things To Do
Pee-Wee: The Ocean City Junior Raiders peewee team picked up their second win Saturday with a 20-0 win over the Hammonton Hawks. After a sluggish first half where the teams went into halftime tied at 0, Jordan Gonzalez returned the second half opening kickoff 65 yards for a TD for the Raiders. Joey Berardis added touchdown runs of 25 and 65 yds to break the game open. Ocean city had a dominate defensive performance shutting down the Hawks all afternoon. The Defensive line of Evan Taylor, Jayden Sanchez, Keyshon Rolls, Clifford Dirkes, and Brandon Granger constantly shut down the efforts of the Hawks Offense. Amari Casalena had multiple tackles playing cornerback for the first time. Once again it was a total team effort! Great job boys! Next week the PeeWee team will host the Linwood Panthers at Ocean City High School at 11:30 am Saturday morning. Come support our young athletes! Junior Varsity:
The JV Jr. Raiders lost Sunday afternoon to Hammonton 26 to 14. They got off to a tough start with two turnovers that lead to two Hammonton touchdowns in the first half. The Jr. Raiders played hard, and attempted to come back, scoring the last two touchdowns, highlighted by several nice runs that led to a touchdown run by Nate Wagner, and a beautiful one handed TD catch by Stephen Ordille. The Jr. Raiders are 2-2 on the season. Varsity: The Varsity team lost a hard fought 13-0 contest in which the score does not indicate how close the game was. The first half saw the teams exchange drives only to come up short, leading to a 0-0 halftime score. The Junior Raiders took the second half kickoff down the field, eating up the entire 3rd quarter. The drive stalled early in the fourth quarter after a couple of crucial penalties. Midway through the 4th quarter saw the Hammonton team break through to take a 6-0 lead. Ocean City immediately drove back down the field deep into Hammonton territory with under 2 minutes left. A critical 4th down pass was intercepted by Hammonton just short of the goal line. Hammonton sealed the game on the very next play with a 98 yard touchdown run. A great defensive effort was turned in by both teams.
