Say it Ain't So!!! Snow??? More Flooding???

  • News
Spring Snow Storm? Even though it seems that it has already started, Spring officially begins this Sunday. However, Mother Nature may play a little trick on us as a threat of another winter storm looms. Computer models are indicating a threat of a developing coastal storm Sunday into Monday. All the ingredients could be there for a significant storm. Cold Canadian air will settle in this weekend, meanwhile, a low pressure system will move off the North Carolina coast. The uncertainties will be how quickly the storm will develop, exact track and precipitation type. Compared to storms that occur during January and February, March storms can be explosive due to greater temperatures differences, but at this time of year the intensity of precipitation is more critical in receiving significant snowfall. The heavier the snow the better chance it will overcome the “warmer” ground temperatures. In addition, the sun angle increases in March, which helps melt snow if it falls during the daylight hours. We will also be monitoring the possibility of coastal flooding. The strength of the storm and exact track will determine how high the waters will rise Sunday night. It is too early to determine precipitation type or snow amounts (if any). Stay Tuned.
