DATE: Monday, Sept. 14
The beach at 57th Street will be guarded this week by the Ocean City Beach Patrol.
PROGRESS: As of Monday at noon, pumping operations were between 58th Street and 59th Street. The beach at 58th Street remains closed. The beach at 57th Street is open and guarded by the Ocean City Beach Patrol (60th Street is no longer guarded). Surveyors stakes appear to mark where the project will end — at the spot where the houses end just past 59th Street. The jetty will be buried by the rebuilt beach.
Excavators are widening and shaping the dunes that will run in a straight line throughout the project area. Beaches between 37th Street and 57th Street are now complete.
WHAT’S NEXT: Work
will continue in the area between 58th Street and 59th Street in the final phase of the project. Ocean City Business Administrator Jim Mallon reported to City Council on Thursday that sand-pumping operations are expected to be complete by Sept. 21. The contractor will take another five to seven days to remove pipeline and clean up. Dune crossover work is currently taking place between 55th Street and 57th Street. The planting of dune grass is scheduled for November.
