The beach entrance at 57th Street is now closed, but visitors can access the beach from nearby 58th Street.
PROGRESS: As of Thursday at 5 p.m., the beach entrance at 55th Street is back open. The beaches at 56th Street and 57th Street are closed. The pipeline feeding new sand onto the beaches is just north of 57th Street.
Beaches between 37th Street and 54th Street are now complete, and the pipeline feeding that part of the project has been removed.
WHAT’S NEXT: Work
will continue in the area between 55th Street and 59th Street in the final phase of the project. Sand-pumping is expected to be complete within about two weeks. Dune crossover work will follow. And the planting of dune grass is scheduled for November.
