Nov. 21 Fishing Tourney Benefits Leukemia Research

  • Things To Do
The 11th annual Fight Leukemia Fishing Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 21 and honors the memory of Chris Hagel. Hagel was a local fisherman from Palermo who died of acute myeloid leukemia in December 2005. The tournament was founded by friends and family of Hagel in order to raise funds and awareness in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's misson to end blood cancer. Since his passing, the Fight Leukemia Fishing Tournament has raised close to $50,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each year the tournament attracts many of the area’s top anglers for a day of great fishing in the hope to raise funds for a cure for blood cancers. The wonderful support of the many anglers and sponsors over the years has helped make The Fight Leukemia Fishing Tournament a success. Fishing starts at 7 a.m. and fish must be weighed in by 4 p.m. at a designated weigh station. All anglers must obey I.G.F.A. Rules and fish kept must be legal size. Fishing is open to boats up to three nautical miles.  The boundaries are Absecon Inlet to Cape May Inlet, back bays and surf.  Fantastic awards, prizes, and auction item are available at the after party held at Seaville Fire Hall in Ocean View.
