  • News
Sand-pumping operations had reached a point just south of 52nd Street by Friday, May 22. Check OCNJ Daily for updates and photos of the progress of work of the Ocean City beach replenishment project for 2015 in the south end of Ocean City between 36th and 59th Streets. DATE: Friday, May 22 PROGRESS: Sand-pumping operations continued at 53rd Street on Friday, and as of late Friday afternoon, that was the only beach where access was blocked. The project is moving towards 52nd Street. Beginning on Saturday (May 22and continuing through the holiday weekend, the City of Ocean City will operate a free beach shuttle in the area where beach replenishment is taking place. Between 9 a.m. and and 5 p.m., the shuttle will pick up beachgoers on any corner near the area of the beach that is closed and take them and their beach gear to a nearby open beach. Residents or visitors needing this service are advised to flag down the shuttle from any corner near the project area. Users should look for a white City of Ocean City van marked “FREE BEACH SHUTTLE.” Bulldozers are reshaping the sand berm created by the city in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy to create an entirely new dune structure. The first two phases of the project (from 42nd Street to 37th Street, then from 42nd Street to St. David’s Place) are complete.
WHAT’S NEXT: The project will proceed from 53rd Street to St. David’s Place near 47th Street (mid-May to mid-June), then from 55th to 59th (mid-June to mid-July). READ MORE: Ocean City NJ Beach Replenishment 2015 Daily Update FOR DAILY UPDATES by E-MAIL: Sign up for free
