DATE: Saturday, May 2
The dredging pipeline lands near 42nd Street and takes a turn to the south.
PROGRESS: The first phase of the project (42nd Street to 37th Street) is complete, and the pipeline has been removed. With high tide and northeast winds pushing water, the beach at 36th Street (where the Army Corps of Engineers originally announced the first phase would end) was noticeably thin on Saturday evening, compared to the rebuilt beach at 38th Street.
From a feeder pipeline that lands just south of 42nd Street, the pipeline now extends southward, and beaches at 43rd and 44th Streets are closed. The work area extends to 44th Street.
Work can be viewed daily from the top of the beach at all blocks.
WHAT’S NEXT: The project will proceed to 49th Street (anticipated to be complete by mid-May), 55th to 49th (mid-May to mid-June), 55th to 59th (mid-June to mid-July).
